Details of Nat’l 2007 Bath , NY as Mouse remembers it right now….
To start with Pockets & myself headed out to meet with sister Shiny on 7/9 about 6:45 A.M. We landed in Waynesburg , PA. The ride through VA & WV was absolutely beautiful & the roads were smooth. We stopped whenever we wanted & chatted with many folks along the way. We logged about 420 our first day. The next day we had about 270 miles to go heading to NY to meet with Wild Monkey in Buffalo . All is going just as planned & lots of energy to spare with beautiful weather ahead. After checking into our room WM takes us on a tour of his town. We rode the Lake Erie , seen some ships & a submarine from the old days. Stopped for a snack at the home of the original buffalo chicken wings. The “Anchor Bar Wings” establishment is not to be missed. Pretty cool & tasty joint!!! On the way back to the hotel Pockets & I thought we smelled popcorn but WM pointed out the General Mills plant that was making cereal we believe…LOL…nice part of town to live in with good smells. The next day we are geared & ready after airing Shiny’s tires & replacing my top motor mount bolt that went mysteriously missing. WM picked us up around 1PMish on Wednesday 7/11 after some showers passed & we headed to Niagara Falls . He led us up the back way into Canada following the river for 14 miles with lovely scenery. The Falls were grand & powerful to say the least! We went on the Maid of the Mist, laughed & enjoyed ourselves immensely! The US let us come back to the states with little trouble too. Afterward we stopped for a bite to eat at a good rib place where the meat fell off the bones. If you’re looking for something tasty & are in that neck of the woods WM knows the perfect places to stop! It was shocking that the whole days trip was only about 60 miles long. Thursday 9AM heading for Bath only 120 miles took us five hours to arrive, stopping along the way for chats & sights. As we enter Bath main street we pass a gas station with bikers yelling at us, it was the PA chapters gassing up & hanging out. About 3PM there were approx. 20 bikes & some cages riding into Hickory Hills Camp Ground. As we were getting our places scoped out & settled in other members were arriving. How awesome it is to ride around & greet everyone & play “find the members”. Too many to name in this long post but you all know that were there. Lots of hugs & smiles all around!!! On Friday many of us went to the Glen Curtis Museum . A fine place with so many motorized things to see. The older folks that work there are all volunteers too & were more then happy with the bunch of us coming to visit. Back at the camp that evening we had our nat’l meeting along with selling of SBU merchandise. The meeting ran over as it usually dose with so much to catch up on & info on next year’s nat’l event being revealed. Along with little ducky’s floating around….Saturday a few of us stayed at the camp to help with preparations for our camp ground meal. Also my old cyber friend “Gooch” arrived with his gal-friend & his Mother of age 85 to visit for awhile. Thanks everyone for making them feel welcome! They enjoyed their visit much. Before supper time Rebel went to put on his Speedo’s for the water balloon toss. Ding & I had the honor to “duck” tape him to the pole. It seemed like everyone had to have a throw! Even a bucket or two from behind. Bikrchic & BadBoy has it all on video. As the evening dusk arrived it was a free for all with left over balloons, some real good shots were fired & Rebel was soaked. Rebel you’re a good sport for sure….The eats went well & a gratitude meeting followed. How perfect to end an evening. Sunday heading home, saying good byes & many tears around 11AM. Promises to see each other next year or even squeeze in an earlier visit by chance. Chapter 3 did a spectacular job with this years Nat’l for sure. The country side in NY was just gorgeous & it was like riding on top of the world. What a special place NY has for anyone who just thinks of it as a city. Breath taking sights don’t even come close to describing it! Myself, Pockets, Whiner, Shiny, TuffStuff, Rebel & Sara leave & log about 290 mi. before stopping for the night because of lightening & threat of rain. Home in NC Monday 7/16 by 3:30PM &1527 miles in all. My bike the Champ burned close to ½ qt. oil while Pockets (crop duster, a new name I like) burned 3 qts. total. A very nice ride & visit with people more wonderful then I could have ever asked for to be in my life today. You are All special in so many ways. I am blessed to have you in my life. Thank you All for being you.
